We will observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread from March 29 to April 4. We are commanded by the Most High God to observe this feast starting on the 15th day of the first month for a period of seven days (Lev. 23:6). This feast reminds us that our ancestors left Egypt in such a hurry, they didn’t have time to use leaven nor to wait for their dough to rise. The keeping of this feast is a reminder of our freedom from Egyptian bondage, hence the bread we are commanded to eat during this feast is called the bread of affliction: “but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste—so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt” (Deut. 16:3).

In obedience to the Torah, during this feast, we remove all leavening agents (such as baking powder and yeast) from our houses. All items such as breads, cookies, and dinner rolls which contain any kind of leavening agents are also removed: “For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses” (Exod. 12:19).

The first and last days of this 7-day feast are annual Sabbaths, so we will be holding services both days (March 29, April 4). Worship services will start at 2pm, and will be followed by a free meal and other activities until sunset.
